- Practical dimension of economic personalism on the example of public benefit organizations
- Inspiring initiatives such as Fair Trade and Adopcja Serca
- Critical analysis of modern economic models
- Ethical perspective on globalization and migration
The monograph presents the evolution of economics from the mercantilist emphasis on the wealth of the state, through the physiocratic recognition of the role of nature, to the classical concept of Adam Smith, which laid the foundations for a free market approach. Socialist counter-proposals and alternative currents, such as the Austrian or Lausanne school, are also described. The book attempts to revise the paradigm of economics from the perspective of personalism, which opposed both capitalist exploitation and totalitarian collectivism. In particular, two phenomena: globalization and migration require an ethical approach that is open to the human being, his dignity and culture.
The book shows the practical dimension of economic personalism. Public benefit organizations are presented as concrete realizations of personalistic values. The Fair Trade movement and the interesting initiative Adopcja Serca, i.e. a program of educational support for children from countries of the global South, implemented, among others, by the Maitri Movement, are also described. The reviewed monograph is an ambitious, original and intellectually viable project. It combines two seemingly distant areas: economics, often perceived as a quantitative and pragmatic science, with the philosophy of personalism, which places the human person at the center of reflection. This perspective opens up an important space for a critical analysis of modern economic models, in which man is reduced to being a homo oeconomicus.
