Eleonora Plutyńska chose her own path, although she grew up in the shadow of her father's legend. She studied in Paris and at the Warsaw School of Fine Arts, but found her true fulfillment in the villages of Polesie and Podlasie. There, working with local weavers, she saved old techniques and secrets of plant dyeing from oblivion. As a co-founder of the "Ład" cooperative and a lecturer at the Hand Weaving Studio at the Warsaw ASP, she educated entire generations of artists, including Magdalena Abakanowicz, Jolanta Owidzka and Krystyna Wojtyna-Drouet. Her fabrics, such as Zwierza, Rycerze or Trójkąty, gained recognition at home and abroad.
The biography of Eleonora Plutyńska is the story of a woman who, despite difficulties, was able to start over every time. Her life, marked by the early death of her father, two world wars, separation from her husband and the destruction of her property, did not deprive her of faith in the meaning of work. Thanks to her strength of character and sense of mission, Eleonora Plutyńska went down in the history of Polish art as a selfless, noble and dedicated figure.
The book "Eleonora Plutyńska. Great Lady of Polish Fabric" is a superbly written biography that recreates the life of a legendary artist, showing both her private life and her work at the intersection of urban and rural cultures. It is an engaging story that does not avoid difficult topics and breaks down stereotypical patterns. An ideal read for lovers of art, history and inspiring biographies.
