Notes from work is a compilation of texts by Erwin Axer, collected and edited to celebrate his centenary. You will find here both articles published in specialized journals and previously unpublished materials from the director's archive in the Zbigniew Raszewski Theater Institute. This is a unique opportunity to take a look behind the scenes of the work of one of the most important creators of Polish theater.
The volume includes texts on various topics and in various forms - from articles and speeches at scientific conferences in Poland and abroad, through detailed descriptions of performances, to the inaugural lecture at the Kraków PWST at the opening of the academic year 1988/1989. The latter, appearing for the first time, is an invaluable source of knowledge about Axer's approach to directing.
A special element of the collection is also the Sketch for an autobiography, which allows you to get to know Erwin Axer from a more personal side. This is an intimate look at his life and work, which will surely interest all lovers of theater and culture. The book was prepared and edited by Agnieszka Rabińska from the Theater Institute, and Maciej Małecki is responsible for the graphic design. The volume is part of the Theater Institute Library series.
The Zbigniew Raszewski Theater Institute is a cultural institution whose mission is to document, research and promote Polish theater. The Institute's activities include, among others, running an archive, a library and a theater museum, organizing scientific conferences, workshops and exhibitions, as well as publishing publications devoted to the history and present of Polish theater. The Theater Institute is also the initiator and organizer of many important cultural projects, such as the Prapremiere Festival or the Contemporary Polish Art Competition.
