- Studying the communicative memory of the Polish People's Republic
In the Polish People's Republic, a normative model was in force, according to which a socialist man should be a cultured man. Participation in culture was a source of prestige, and the development of personality was understood as becoming a cultured man, which became a popular element of social advancement. The intelligentsia was to raise the cultural level by introducing the less educated layers to the national culture.
The post-war decades were specific because prestige indicators such as noble descent or inherited wealth were buried, promoting the ideal of a socialist man for whom education and culture are widely available, and becoming a cultured man is a model of development and social aspiration.
The research focuses on the memory of the everyday experiences of people who consciously experienced this period. The perspective touches on experiences that relate not so much to witnesses of history as to the everyday lives of people who lived in that era. The aim is to show how the individual found their way in the Polish People's Republic, how they coped, lived, and experienced. We focus on the communicative memory of the Polish People's Republic, collected in the form of personal and biographical narratives, analogous to the narrated memory.
