In the Second Republic, the intellectual formation presented in T. Sikorski's book was noticed, but during the PRL period it was treated according to the Marxist "key". Even if figures such as Fr. Piotr Ściegienny, Edward Dembowski, Ludwik Królikowski, Henryk Kamieński were reminded, the didactic (also scientific) newspeak limited the field in terms of a reliable analysis of their views. Only in the 1970s, with the birth of the democratic opposition, did the views of the radical Christian Left become an inspiration for groups such as the Workers' Defense Committee, the Movement for the Defense of Human and Civil Rights, the Confederation of Independent Poland, and the Young Poland Movement. Fr. Jerzy Popiełuszko used the language of social justice, brotherhood, evangelical love of neighbor, and direct borrowings from evangelical science were found in the official documents and publications of "Solidarity".
It is a paradox that after 1989 the Christian Left was almost completely forgotten, also in research. T. Sikorski's book fills this gap, offering a fresh look at the history of Polish political and social thought. With passion and commitment, the author restores the memory of forgotten heroes and ideas, showing their relevance and importance for contemporary Poland. It is a read that provokes reflection and encourages dialogue.
