For twenty-one years, from 1992 to 2013, this program was a guest in Polish homes, becoming an integral part of the morning ritual. This was a time of dynamic changes in the media, and "Coffee or Tea?" witnessed and participated in these changes.

  • Detailed analysis of the first nationwide breakfast program.
  • Presentation of the evolution of breakfast television in Poland.
  • Discussion of the program's impact on Polish media culture.
  • Analysis of the structural, pragmatic, stylistic, and cognitive aspects of the program.
  • Introduction to the field of discourse linguistics and media linguistics.

Breakfast television in Poland enjoys great popularity, as evidenced by high viewership ratings. Programs of this type are present not only in the leading television stations, but also in local stations, which underscores their importance in the media landscape. Ewelina Tyc's book analyzes the phenomenon of this type of program using "Coffee or Tea?" as an example.

The work consists of two main parts: a theoretical and an analytical part. In the theoretical part, the author presents the state of media studies research and describes the methods of procedure, such as discourse analysis and the linguistic image of the world. In the analytical part, the audiovisual material of the program is analyzed and characterized according to four aspects of the genre pattern developed by Maria Wojtak.

In the structural aspect, the construction of the program, both as a whole and its individual parts, is discussed. In the pragmatic aspect, the actors of the discourse, i.e., the presenters of the program and the studio, are analyzed. In the stylistic aspect, the individual style of the selected hosts of the program is characterized. In the cognitive aspect, the media image of the world created in the breakfast program "Coffee or Tea?" is presented.

The reflections undertaken in the work fit into the field of discourse linguistics and media linguistics, making it a valuable source of knowledge for students and media researchers. This book is not only an analysis of a television program, but also a reflection on the role of the media in shaping our reality.
