"On the Other Side of the Trenches" is a kind of interview with a Ukrainian spy who decided to tell his story. However, the author does not limit himself to the spy's account, but cites a number of his own content, which allows the reader to understand the broader context of the Russian-Ukrainian war, which de facto began in 2014. This book is an attempt to understand the motivations of people who found themselves on both sides of the conflict, and to show the brutal reality of war.
Ivan Bogdan, the hero of this story, dedicated his life to the history of modern Ukraine. He not only described it, but also actively created it. His DNA is the Azov Regiment, from which he came and with which he saved Mariupol from being captured by Putin's green men. The last chapter of his life was tragic. The defender of Azovstal lost a foot in battle, but continued to take part in the fighting. Towards the end of the siege of Azovstal, he died from an air bomb. President Zelensky publicly announced that he would posthumously award him the highest award: Hero of Ukraine.
This book is a testament to the cruelty of war, but also a story of heroism and sacrifice. It is a must-read for anyone who wants to understand the current Russian-Ukrainian conflict and its impact on the fate of Europe. Learn the truth about the war from the perspective of a spy who saw it from both sides of the trenches. See what war looks like in the 21st century and what its consequences are for people and nations.
