Nowhere on Earth. Returns. Short Stories
"Nowhere on Earth" is a continuation of the war diary "Winter in the Morning", describing the difficult attempts to find oneself in the post-war reality of a person whom contemporary humanities would call an exile. Janina Bauman recalls post-war Poland: immediately after the end of the war, when she undertakes further education, considers going to Palestine, meets her future husband Zygmunt Bauman, joint studies, her many years of work for Polish Film, after March 1968, when the Baumans were forced to abandon their homeland and look for identity again.
- Memories of post-war Poland.
- Micro-novel and short stories that complement each other.
- Story about responsibility for the Other.
- Testimony of a person, his "small" history.
Janina Bauman writes about the post-war years (1945-1968) and the morally relative world that was forming at that time with extraordinary sincerity, avoiding the role of the only right-seeing person of the "last righteous". The book consists (apart from memoirs) of a micro-novel and short stories - all of them complement each other, and the fictional characters created by Janina Bauman are reflected in her memoirs.
"Nowhere on Earth" is part of the recurring discussion about responsibility for the Other and the identity of Poles after March '68. However, it is not a settlement book, but rather something much more important: the voice-testimony of a man, his "small" history, which in the turmoil of the 20th century was shared by thousands of others.
