The first volume of the album takes us on a sentimental journey through Lviv, showcasing the beauty of its centuries-old agglomeration and architecture that bears the marks of time. Here, we find photographs of interiors and exhibits from the Lviv National Art Gallery, the representative rooms of the Potocki Palace, mystical frescoes by Jan Henryk Rosen from the Armenian Cathedral and St. Mary Magdalene Church, as well as the most valuable exhibits from the Museum of Ethnography and Artistic Industry and paintings designed by Jan Matejko from the aula of Lviv Polytechnic. There are also modern attractions, such as the famous murals of Podzamcze.
The second volume is dedicated to the monuments in the Lviv region. It presents churches, palaces, castles, and other architectural objects from fifty locations that are particularly associated with Polish culture. The album is an author's photo report, which is accompanied by brief historical commentary. Each part of the album opens with a map on which the discussed objects are marked, as well as contemporary and pre-war street names. It's an invitation to embark on a journey to places close to the hearts of many Poles.
The author of the album, Mirek Osip-Pokrywka, is a traveler, photographer, and publisher who publishes materials about interesting places, countries, and cultures in travel magazines, popular science journals, and local history periodicals. Together with his wife, he has published a dozen tourist guides and photographic albums. Their earlier work, the two-volume Lexicon of Architectural Monuments of the Eastern Borderlands, received the Magellan Award in the Event of the Year category at the Warsaw Book Fair in 2018. The album "Lviv and Lviv Land" continues the passion for discovering and documenting the beauty of Polish cultural heritage.
