The reviewed book is the result of nationwide research conducted during the period of the People's Republic of Poland. The analyses and assessments contained therein are based on interviews conducted in 1988, which included 2,835 people from all intellectual circles from 49 then-existing voivodeships. No one before had conducted such a representative study of the Polish intelligentsia.

The research, carried out with great momentum, as well as with great care and high competence, has a unique scientific value in the field of historical sociology. Due to its cognitive value, there is undoubtedly a need to continue research on the Polish intelligentsia.
