Katarzyna Nowicka's book incorporates the history of the pioneering theaters of the Tri-City into the historical, political and social contexts that conditioned the emergence and development of the student cultural movement in the Polish People's Republic. The author uses Professor Maria Janion's term, "poeticizing the ordinariness of the Polish People's Republic", as the name of one of the strategies of cultural activity of students belonging to the post-war generation.

Tracing the history of three Gdańsk student theaters, which were established in the 1950s, allows us to recreate the moment of birth and the model of functioning of student culture in the period of political thaw. These small theaters, although often referred to as scenes of one political season, gathered in one circle talented, inventive, resourceful and ambitious people. The student theater became the second university for a significant part of the intellectual youth, who in adulthood and professional life belonged to the elite of creators of Polish culture.

The book "Poeticizing the ordinariness of the Polish People's Republic in the student theaters of the Coast" is a fascinating story about youth, passion and creativity in difficult times. It is a must-read for anyone interested in the history of Polish culture and the role of the student cultural movement in shaping society.
