Churches play an important role in every city, both socially and spatially. As early as the 12th century, John of Salisbury compared the city to a human body, where the palace and cathedral formed the head. The position of churches in the old cities was emphasized by their altitude dominance. The city silhouette had its order, in which the wooden huts grew at the lowest, the brick houses at medium height, the palaces further, and the church towers at the highest. Over time, this hierarchy has changed, but the importance of churches has remained unchanged.

The history of a church is always the history of the space in which it is located - the former jurisdiction, the parish district, or even the district - and the history of the people associated with it. The history of the capital's temples is intertwined with the history of the city and Poland. When Warsaw burned, the churches burned; when it was rebuilt, they arose from the rubble. They are national monuments - places of coronation of rulers, votive offerings, as well as arenas of bloody battles. They are also the pantheons of great Poles, galleries of sculpture and painting.

The texts contained in this book are accessible stories about churches and places on the map of the capital. These stories are in the nature of tales, so well established in the Warsaw literary tradition. This book is an invitation to discover the history of Warsaw through the prism of its sacred buildings, which are an integral part of the city's cultural heritage.

The publication "Churches and chapels. Echoes of Old Warsaw. Volume 6" is a must-read for all lovers of the history of Warsaw, sacred architecture, and the cultural heritage of Poland. Get to know the fascinating stories about churches and chapels that have shaped the spiritual and spatial landscape of the capital for centuries.
