CHOPIN ETUDES IN HIS ONE WAY - KRZYSZTOF BILICA
Krzysztof Bilica's book is a fascinating journey into the depths of Frédéric Chopin's etudes, showing them from a unique perspective of nodal sounds and fleeting figures. Instead of focusing on the commonly known aspects of harmony, provenance, or expression, the author focuses on the analysis of the morphology and anatomical details of the construction of these exceptional works. This is a monographic study of a detailed topic that opens up new research possibilities in musicology.

This book is not a complete, historical, and systematic monograph on Chopin's etudes, but rather a monographic study of a detailed topic, signaled in the title. The author limits himself to the necessary minimum in matters of harmony, provenance, expression, dynamics, agogics, articulation, coloring, or the piano technique associated with them. Instead, he focuses on the analysis of nodal sounds and fleeting figures, which allows him to penetrate the interior of the work and deepen its morphology.
This publication is the result of work carried out in 2014 as part of a scholarship from the Minister of Culture and National Heritage. In addition, it was distinguished in the Competition of the National Center for Culture for the best work in the field of Polish music history in 2016. It was co-financed from the funds of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage from the Culture Promotion Fund under the Musical Trace program, implemented by the National Institute of Music and Dance.
Krzysztof Bilica, the author of this publication, invites readers to discover Chopin's etudes in a completely new way. His analysis of nodal sounds and fleeting figures opens the door to new research possibilities and allows for deepening the anatomical details of the construction of these exceptional works. This is a must-read for every lover of Chopin's music and students of musicology.
