After the end of World War II, Szczecin and its surroundings were within the borders of Poland, but the war caused enormous destruction. City centers, road, rail and port infrastructure were in ruins. In the first post-war years, settlers from the East were resettled here, which was associated with a lack of educated architectural and engineering staff. Therefore, already in 1947, the Faculty of Architecture was opened at the Higher School of Engineering, where scientists from Warsaw, Gdańsk or Wrocław lectured. Graduates of this university created spatial development plans and designed both public buildings and residential buildings.

This publication presents monographs of Szczecin architects who played a key role in the reconstruction and development of the region. You will also find a list of the most important projects and implementations from the first post-war years and the 1950s. This is not only a collection of facts and data, but above all a story about people, their passion and their determination to create a new space for life.
