It was Thursday, September 28, 1967. Two years after Leopold Tyrmand left Poland, a few months after he published his personal accounts in the Parisian Culture. Nine employees of the Security Service stood in front of the door of Barbara Hoff's apartment in Warsaw. As a result of the search, books, magazines, Tyrmand's letters to Barbara Hoff, numerous postcards from closer and more distant friends, various types of IDs, calendars and address books filled to the brim, stacks of business cards, most of which belonged to correspondents of foreign magazines, photojournalists, publishers or embassy employees, were confiscated.

In this collection, we will also find two inconspicuous notebooks, most often written in green ink. They are important and unique because they are the only ones that illustrate the writer's literary kitchen, his readings and intellectual interests in the first years after his return to the country. However, before that happened, fate threw the writer through many European countries, and the events that accompanied it could, without exaggeration, be the basis for a sensational film.

Leopold Tyrmand's notebooks are not only a collection of notes, but also a testimony of an era and an intellectual portrait of one of the most important Polish writers of the 20th century. This is a must-read for all lovers of literature, history and Polish culture. Get to know the backstage of Tyrmand's work and discover his fascinating world.
