The Violin Concerto op. 70 by Ludomir Różycki is a work that was created in the shadow of the war turmoil. Its history is full of secrets, and the preserved manuscripts are a valuable source of knowledge about the composer's creative process. Janusz Wawrowski, who elaborated the violin part and performed it, reached three manuscripts kept in the University Library in Warsaw. These are a complete score of the piano reduction in two versions and an incomplete orchestral score.
In this edition of the piano reduction of the Concerto, Janusz Wawrowski tried to elaborate the violin part as reliably as possible. He made the final decisions regarding text changes after numerous analyses, rehearsals and concert performances. He also had the opportunity to consult these decisions with outstanding musicians during the studio recording of Różycki's Concerto in London with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Grzegorz Nowak. The aim was to delve into the composer's text, understand his ideas and take on the role of his consultant.
Janusz Wawrowski, delving into the composer's text, tried to understand his intentions and ideas, even the seemingly strangest ones. It seemed to him that at some stage, due to the lack of a violinist colleague, the composer did not have the strength and motivation to complete the work and bring it to its performance. In the solo violin part, he made only the necessary modifications, and all proposals for changes were included in the violin part and the score. Różycki's original text was entered in the appropriate places as an alternative text.
