The year is 1661. The Polish-Muscovite war is in progress. Further bloody conflicts are devastating the Republic of Poland. Through the Sandomierz lands devastated by the Swedish flood, Samuel Tyburcy Rużyński, a meritorious veteran miraculously freed from Muscovite captivity, is heading towards his banner. Before he reaches his destination, however, he will have to settle accounts with the past. As if in a delirium, he wanders through ruined towns haunted by strange events that take place partly in reality and partly in the minds of people mutilated by the cruelties of war. Figures pass by like phantoms, some encountered for the first time, others from the hero's past, reminiscent of a danse macabre.

Is Samuel Tyburcy Rużyński really who he claims to be? Can he trust his senses? He is haunted by tormenting dreams and waking visions, in which perhaps lies the key to solving his tormenting problems. Overcoming them, however, is only the starting point for the vivisection of his desires and failures of recent years. It seems that old mistakes can no longer be repaired. But is that really so? Samuel faces a great moral dilemma.

An intimate dance with death in the era of 17th-century wars, and at the same time a story about the duality of human nature, prone with the same intensity to both doing good and doing evil. But what decides about it and what tips the scales? Reach for Łukasz Wnuk's equally extraordinary and brilliantly written historical novel. The novel was published by Lira Publishing in hardcover, with 320 pages, in 206x146 mm format.
