Discover the fascinating history of the Amereida movement, a pioneering artistic and poetic project that originated in South America. Magdalena Barbaruk's book is an in-depth analysis of this phenomenon, weaving in the voices of the last generation of creators and revising the philosophical foundations of the project. Learn about the inspirations, challenges, and legacy of Amereida, which forever changed the face of art and architecture.
In 1965, a group of poets, architects, and artists traveled from Tierra del Fuego to Bolivia to create a poetic dwelling of unknown territories in South America. Their journey, called travesa de Amereida, resulted in the creation of the poem Amereida, a founding epic of the continent and a programmatic manifesto of the group. Although they did not reach their goal, their expedition proved to be a success, leading to the founding of the Open City in Chile and the creation of the Architectural School of Valparaiso.
In her book, Magdalena Barbaruk analyzes interviews and private correspondence of the creators of Amereida, recalls recently revealed photographs from the expedition, and describes the significance of Chile's political awakening in 2019 for the movement. The author also discovers the trace of Edward Stachura in the poem, showing how the Polish poet became part of the Latin American movement and what consequences this had.
The Amereida movement is not only a story about history, but also a reflection on the philosophical and artistic foundations of the project. Magdalena Barbaruk's book is a must-read for anyone interested in the art, architecture, and poetry of South America, as well as for those who seek inspiration in pioneering projects and ideas.
