Maksymilian Gierymski (1846–1874) is not only a painter and draftsman, but also a January insurgent and the older brother of Aleksander, also a painter. His work, rooted in the Munich school, is characterized by a realistic approach to landscape. Gierymski, after studying at the Warsaw Drawing Class and under the supervision of Juliusz Kossak, went to Munich, where he continued his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts.


Gierymski's painting style, although initially underestimated in Poland, gained international recognition. His works were presented in London, Vienna, Berlin and Hamburg, where they were enthusiastically received. This album is an excellent opportunity to explore the work of this outstanding artist and understand his contribution to the development of Polish realistic painting.
