HUMAN INFORMATION BEHAVIOR IN THE CONTEXT OF THE EPISTEMIC INFORMATION BUBBLE
Monika Krakowska's book is an innovative study of the issues of information behavior, which is modestly represented in Polish literature. The author proposes a holistic concept of human interaction with information, taking into account various forms and factors influencing these interactions. This is particularly valuable in the context of fragmented research on information behavior.
- Innovative approach to information behavior
- Holistic concept of human interaction with information
- Interdisciplinary nature of the subdiscipline of information science
- Unification of terminology in the field of information behavior research
- Multidimensional space and information environment
- Categorization of conceptual information geographies
- Characterization of attributes and specifics of cognitive, affective and behavioral perspectives
The book characterizes the multidimensional space and information environment, attempting to unify and categorize conceptual information geographies. It describes various concepts relating to closed information spaces, such as the information bubble, filter bubble, epistemic bubble or echo chambers. This made it possible to construct a new plane for theoretical and empirical investigations in the field of information behavior.
The phenomenon of the epistemic information bubble is presented in an approach requiring a comprehensive characterization of the attributes and specifics of cognitive, affective, behavioral, as well as biological and philosophical perspectives of human agency and a deeper look at their dynamics. It was also crucial to take into account the conditions undertaken by users in their activities, behaviors, practices and experiences with information in the infosphere.
Monika Krakowska is an assistant professor at the Institute of Information Studies of the Jagiellonian University in Krakow. Her research interests include the issues of information behavior, as well as specific information spaces in which these activities take place. The research also includes the issues of affective-cognitive and social information behaviors of humans in relation to various information environments.
