The European Art Gallery is a unique opportunity to see works gathered in one place that have shaped European culture and aesthetics. The exhibition presents works by masters such as Paolo Veneziano, Lorenzo Lotto, Lavinia Fontana, Pieter Brueghel the Younger, Lucas Cranach the Younger, Luca Giordano, Mattia Preti, Elisabeth Vige Le Brun and Maurice de Vlaminck. Each room is dedicated to a different era, which allows you to understand the evolution of European art over the centuries.
The exhibition is also a tribute to the donors of the National Museum in Krakow, thanks to whom it was possible to collect such a rich collection. Works from the collections of Wiktor Osławski, Konstanty Schmidt-Ciążyński, Jan Matejko, Feliks Manggha Jasieński, Erazm Barącz, Edward Goldstein and Stanisław Count Ursyn-Rusiecki form the core of the European Art Gallery. Their passion and commitment made it possible to create a place that inspires and educates subsequent generations of art lovers.
The exhibition guide is an invaluable aid in understanding the concept of the Gallery and the history of the collection of European painting and sculpture at the MNK since the institution was founded in 1879. The book presents over 120 works in the following rooms of the Gallery, and the commentaries provide an accessible view of the history of European art in a reversed perspective from the 20th and 19th centuries, through the 18th and 17th centuries, to the Renaissance and the Middle Ages. It is the perfect read for anyone who wants to deepen their knowledge of European art and better understand the works presented in the exhibition.
The National Museum in Krakow is one of the most important cultural institutions in Poland, collecting and presenting works of Polish and European art. The European Art Gallery is another step towards making the most valuable cultural treasures available to the public. We invite you to visit and discover the beauty of European art!
