Piotr Załuski, born in 1945 in Lublin, is a graduate of Polish philology at the University of Wrocław and the Leon Schiller National Higher School of Film, Television and Theater in Łódź. He was an actor, playwright, literary director and director of the Kalambur Student Theater in Wrocław. He worked as a journalist and vision director at Wrocław Television, creating reports and documentaries. During the Solidarity period, he was active in the NSZZ Solidarność TVP Wrocław and the Association of Polish Journalists.

After being interned during martial law, Załuski emigrated to Germany, where he worked for 12 years as a journalist and director at the Polish Broadcasting Station of Radio Free Europe in Munich. After returning to Poland, he collaborated with Polish Radio in Wrocław and taught at the University of Wrocław. He is the author of books about the life of Adam Mickiewicz, historical novels and memoirs. His rich professional and life experience makes his memories of the time of internment extremely valuable and moving.
