Before the First World War, poster art developed mainly in Krakow and Lviv. After regaining independence, the artistic center moved to Warsaw. The Polish-Bolshevik war brought a demand for propaganda posters, and after 1920 the young state needed posters advertising various institutions and economic initiatives. In the interwar period, Polish posters won awards at world exhibitions. During the Second World War, pre-war advertising posters with German inscriptions and compositions calling for the fight against the occupier were published.
Posters from the years 1915-1945, collected by the National Museum in Krakow, are discussed by Magdalena Czubińska. In the introduction, she presents the background of the development of Polish graphic art in those years, and in the catalog part, she presents the works of artists from various circles, such as Witold Chomicz, Zdzisław Gedliczka, Tadeusz Gronowski, Jan Hrynkowski, Felicjan Szczęsny Kowarski, Józef Mehoffer, Kazimierz Sichulski, Zofia Stryjeńska, Wojciech Weiss, Feliks Michał Wygrzywalski. The publication is a continuation of the first volume of the series, showing the oldest Polish posters (up to 1914) from the MNK collection.
