The book consists of two parts. The first part contains three chapters devoted to the history and tradition of the uprising in the years 1863-1864 in Łódź and the region. They present Łódź and its inhabitants during the January Uprising, analyzing the years 1861-1864, the period of pre-uprising patriotic demonstrations and the two years of fighting against the Russian invader. The profiles of the most important commanders associated with the Łódź region are presented and the topic of the tradition of the January Uprising in Łódź in the years of the Second Polish Republic is undertaken. The attitude of the central and local authorities towards the veterans of the fighting from 1863-1864 and their situation in the interwar period is also described.

The second part is a collection of diaries and memoirs of participants of the uprising, whose fates were connected with Łódź and the region, and a letter from 1913 written by Józef Malewski, a veteran of the uprising from Łódź. The publication is enriched by numerous additions, such as laws and regulations issued by the authorities of the Second Polish Republic, regarding support for veterans of Polish national uprisings, many unique illustrations and a personal index. The book, published by Księży Młyn Dom Wydawniczy, has 198 pages in 16.5x23.5 cm format and a paperback cover. The year of publication is 2014.
