British Aerospace (now BAE Systems) 146 is a modern British passenger aircraft with turbofan propulsion in a high-wing configuration. The propulsion is provided by four Textron Lycoming ALF 502R-5 engines. The prototype was flown in 1981. In serial production, which lasted from 1983 to 2002, 387 copies of this aircraft were produced. In 1978, by an act of parliament, three British aircraft plants merged: Hawker Siddeley, Scottish Aviation and British Aerospace, which created the British Aerospace concern (now BAE Systems). The management of the new concern decided to continue the work started at Hawker Siddeley on a new medium-range passenger aircraft capable of carrying approximately 100 passengers. The result of this work was the BAe 146.

It turned out to be a very successful machine. It is characterized by short take-off and landing runs, is highly reliable, easy to fly and provides good travel comfort. It also exhibits a reasonable level of operating costs. During serial production, several development versions were created. The first one produced in series was the BAe 146-100. Very quickly, the BAe 146-200 was developed, which was lengthened compared to the original and can carry a larger number of passengers. A fire-fighting version of the BAe 146 was also developed, as well as a version for transporting the British royal family - BAe 146 CC2.
