For millions of years, the Earth's surface has been shaped by natural processes, resulting in extraordinary landforms. Mountains are considered one of the most beautiful works of nature, whose specific atmosphere, shapes and wilderness have made them a symbol of mystery and power. Mountains, i.e. areas above 500 m above sea level, according to geographers, occupy approximately 3% of our country's territory. They are located in a narrow strip in the south of Poland, and their latitudinal extent is approximately 500 km. They belong to two extensive European systems - the Carpathians and the Bohemian Massif - which were formed in different geological epochs, therefore each of the ranges has a separate and unique character.

The Sudetes, geologically much older than the Carpathians, impress with their diverse landscapes. There you can admire vast sub-peak plateaus, glacial cirques and deep ravines, granite outliers, rock labyrinths and volcanic cones. The Carpathians are famous for the Bieszczady meadows and the lost valleys of the Low Beskids, where fruit trees bloom in spring. They also impress with the Gorce glades and seas of fog, from which the peaks of the Wyspowy Beskids emerge. The Pieniny meadows and the soaring granite peaks of the Tatras are unparalleled. The monumental silhouette of Babia Góra, the highest peak of the Beskids, is also impressive.

Barbara Zygmańska is an experienced mountain guide: Beskid and Tatra. She is interested in the entire Carpathians, including their parts located in Slovakia, Ukraine, Romania and the Czech Republic. As a guide, she has been leading both beginners and subsequent years of guide courses to her favorite mountains for years.
