Stefan Sztromajer, a chemist by training and a long-time employee of the Łódź University of Technology, was a lover of motorcycles and cameras. Born in Łódź in 1931, he photographed his hometown for over 75 years, recording its constant changes. His photos are not only a documentation of architecture and streets, but above all a portrait of the people who gave Łódź its unique character. From the wooden houses on Nawrot Street to the demolished tenement houses on Główna Street, from the changing shop windows to the political posters from various eras - all this has been captured in Stefan Sztromajer's shots.

The book "Evoke Memories" is the result of the collaboration of Stefan Sztromajer with his wife Zoa. It was she who mobilized her husband to digitize and show his photos to the world. Thanks to her, several exhibitions and the album "Łódź. From end to end" with photos from 1945-1989 were created. Zoa Sztromajer also wrote down her husband's account, creating a story about his very interesting family. This work is therefore a joint effort of two enthusiasts who want to share their love for Łódź.

The album contains 144 pages full of extraordinary photographs and memories. Published in the format 235x165 mm with a brochure cover, it is an ideal gift for anyone who appreciates the history of Łódź and the beauty of photography. It is a journey into the past that allows you to see the city through the eyes of a man who has devoted his whole life to it. The book was published in 2020 by Księży Młyn Dom Wydawniczy.

"Evoke Memories" is not only a photo album, but above all a story about Łódź, which has disappeared, but thanks to Stefan Sztromajer's passion has survived forever.
