The insurance line responded with dense fire to the Russian attack, under the cover of which it began to retreat towards the battalion squares standing behind. The Bavarians were aware of the Russian advantage and the unfavorable shape of the natural battlefield. Therefore, the squares bristling with dozens of rifle barrels and steel bayonets began to calmly retreat towards the fortified bridgehead, stopping from time to time to fire a murderous volley. At the same time, the aim was to draw Russian troops into the range of Bavarian artillery.

The small war on the Narew front was not a decisive section of the fighting on the Polish theater of war, but its role was very important for the entirety of the operations of Napoleon's main army.
