Tomasz Bodnar's book is the result of research on urban spaces in coastal cities, covering six selected urban units located on the Baltic Sea in the West Pomeranian and Pomeranian voivodeships. The selection of these cities (Darłowo, Dziwnów, Międzyzdroje, Hel, Ustka, Władysławowo) was dictated by their size, determined by the population, and differences in the development and character of urban spaces. The field studies, carried out in 2021-2022, enabled the collection of current data on the perception of space among residents and its users, taking into account the current social, economic, and urban context of small coastal cities.
The combination of the mental map method and the survey method made it possible to take into account the features of the experienced urban space that influence the ideas about it. Small coastal cities differ in the development of urban spaces such as ports, beaches, monuments, and recreational areas. Conducting research in selected cities allowed for a more comprehensive and representative picture of the perception of urban space. This book is a valuable source of knowledge for anyone interested in urban planning and urban development.
