Max Valentiner, even before the outbreak of World War I, gained fame by breaking the world record for deep diving. His engineering talent resulted in designs for underwater vehicles that were used in maritime rescue. If it weren't for the war, he would probably have become famous like Ballard, planning an international expedition to search for treasures at the bottom of the Adriatic. However, fate directed him differently, placing him at the head of one of the youngest U-boat teams.

For a long time, Valentiner led the list of German U-boat commanders in terms of tonnage sunk. Only the mission in the Black Sea, where the targets were limited, pushed him out of the leading position. Nevertheless, he sank more Allied tonnage than Kretchmer, who was number one during World War II. Valentiner was an ardent supporter of unrestricted submarine warfare, having no scruples about attacking any targets.

His attitude led to a diplomatic crisis when he sank the Italian passenger liners Ancona and Persia in 1915, causing the deaths of 40 Americans. This strained German-American relations, which the German government sought to avoid. Valentiner served on submarines U-3, U-10, U-38 and U-157, achieving his greatest successes on U-38, to which this book is dedicated. The book was published in 2023 in 208x148 mm format in paperback by Historia PL Publishing House.

This book is a fascinating journey through the life and career of one of the most controversial and successful U-boat commanders of World War I. Learn about the behind-the-scenes of his decisions, successes and failures that influenced the fate of the war at sea. Immerse yourself in the world of underwater battles and discover the story of a man who has forever entered the history of the navy.
