In his work, the author analyzes the view of the Union of Brest from three different perspectives, which allows to understand the complexity of this issue. Contrary to what Ukrainian historiography tries to show, Prof. Osadczy showed that although the Polish, church and political side was not the initiator and constructor of the Union - and even if it was, its participation was not decisive - it fully adopted the Union. Of course, it associated its ecclesiastical and political goals with it, but above all it was its "bulwark", which until the end of its political existence and also during the time of the partitions defended the Union's right to exist and freedom.

Thus, it was the Republic of Poland, so often accused of hostility towards the Union, that bore the multiple costs of being the protector of the Union. These were the costs of opposing external forces - mainly Moscow, then Russia and internal forces: the Orthodox-Protestant camp supported from the outside by Moscow (Russia) and Prussia, and the Cossacks, who were the internal enemies of the Union number one, as well as the peasant masses stirred up by the enemies of the Union during the uprisings and revolts, such as the Koliyivshchyna or the Haidamak movement. The enormous price of blood that the Polish side paid for centuries of guardianship over the Union was the genocide in Volhynia and Lesser Poland, in which many Uniates and clergymen actively participated.

This work is well-grounded in the realities of the conducted research, based on source materials and original scientific studies. Some of the conclusions drawn by the Author are specific and bold, but credible. The author clearly speaks of the dangers associated with Banderism, which is an anti-Christian and idolatrous ideology that deviates from the standards of European civilization. For this professionalism and credibility, the Author deserves great recognition. This book is a valuable source of knowledge for all those interested in the history of Poland, Russia and Ukraine and their mutual relations. Reading it allows for a better understanding of the historical processes that shaped Eastern Europe.
