Wanda Chodorowska, born in 1921, came from a village 150 km from Warsaw, where the standard of living resembled that of Konopielka. In her book, she describes the realities of life in those times – lack of electricity, illiteracy, lack of basic sanitary facilities. Despite difficult conditions, thanks to determination and hard work, she gained an education and became an inspiration to others.
The book also presents a picture of World War II, which left its mark on the life of the author and the inhabitants of the Kielce region. Mobilizations, migrations of the population, troop movements, battles, and extermination of the civilian population are described. The author shares her traumatic war experiences and describes daily life during the occupation until liberation.

Wanda Chodorowska was active and passionate throughout her life. She worked as a teacher, tutor, nurse, partisan, mother, tour guide, and producer of educational programs. At the age of 70, she learned how to use a computer, and at the age of 90, a tablet. She wrote poems, memoirs, made patchwork paintings, crocheted, cultivated plots and gardens. She died at the age of 95 in 2017, leaving behind a rich literary heritage and inspiration for future generations.
