WST x 40 + WARSAW THEATRE MEETINGS COLLECTIVE WORK
The Warsaw Theatre Meetings is a special festival that deserves special memory. Organized for the first time in 1965, it quickly became an important institution of Polish theatre life and gained its own legend over time. Although the festival is 57 years old, it has had 41 editions. Their history is commemorated in a special publication: WST x 40 + Warsaw Theatre Meetings 1965-2021.
- Richly illustrated documentation of all WST editions.
- Synthesis of the fascinating history of the festival by Barbara Osterloff.
- Description of Small WST, a new program element of the Meetings, by Szymon Kazimierczak.
- Memories of people associated with the festival: actors, directors, curators, organizers, critics and audiences.
- Surprising anniversary character of the publication.
- Summary of the current history of the Warsaw Theatre Meetings.
- Symbolic sign of the continued existence of the festival.
The book contains richly illustrated documentation of all WST editions. Barbara Osterloff presents a synthesis of the fascinating history of the festival, and Szymon Kazimierczak complements it with a description of the Small WST, which have become a new program element of the Meetings in the last decade. An unobvious commentary is also created by individual memories of people associated with the festival: actors, directors, curators, organizers, critics and audiences, such as Jerzy Trela, Stanisław Radwan, Dorota Segda, Tadeusz Bradecki, Jerzy Radziwiłowicz, Wiesław Komasa, Mikołaj Grabowski, Maciej Wojtyszko, Anna Augustynowicz, Jan Klata, Maciej Nowak, Tomasz Miłkowski or Magdalena Raszewska.
The publication has a surprisingly anniversary character. It was supposed to accompany the 40th Meetings, but due to the outbreak of the pandemic, this round edition had an exceptional formula - it took place only on the Internet. The publication therefore summarizes the current history of the Warsaw Theatre Meetings, and at the same time the plus in the title remains a symbolic sign of their continued existence. This is another proof that the festival does not give in to adversity. This story is not over yet.
The co-publisher of the publication is the Zbigniew Raszewski Theatre Institute. The project is co-financed by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage. The book has 843 pages and a format of 201x255 mm. It was published in hardcover in 2022 by the Theatre Institute.
