This monograph is an attempt to refer to selected issues concerning artistic photography in Poland. The authors of the texts come from various research traditions on the medium of photography, they are theorists and practitioners, which results in showing different perspectives on the development of photographic creation in our country. The monograph aims to shed light on selected aspects related to the medium of photography in Poland in the years 1947-2017. It creates a panorama of selected events, facts, activities, personalities and trends that have occurred in the last seven decades since 1947.

Subsequent texts build a bridge between the traditions of the pre-war Polish Photo Club, the activity of Jan Bułhak, the organized activity of the Association of Polish Art Photographers (ZPAF), intermedial phenomena in photography at the turn of the sixties and seventies of the 20th century, the work of separate artists, including Andrzej Różycki, Zygmunt Rytka, Stefan Wojnecki, Zbigniew Dłubak, reportage photography in Upper Silesia, the exhibition practice of the Extravagance Gallery at the Sosnowiec Art Center Zamek Sielecki, plein air as a form of artistic meeting and film documentation as a portrait of the photographer artist.
