The publication contains two court decisions regarding the extradition of Roman Polański to the United States. The first is the decision (with justification) of the District Court in Krakow, dated October 15, 2015, which considered the request of the District Prosecutor's Office in Krakow to extradite Polish citizen Roman Polański to the American side. The District Court in Krakow stated that such extradition was inadmissible. The presiding judge was SSO Dariusz Mazur.
The second is the decision (with justification) of the Supreme Court of December 6, 2016, in which the judges of the Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court examined the cassation appeal against the decision of the District Court in Krakow, filed by the Prosecutor General (Minister of Justice), to the detriment of the interested party. The Supreme Court rejected the cassation. The reporting judge (author of the justification) was SSN Dr. Michał Laskowski.
The book also includes four essays that are a commentary on the so-called Polański case. Professor Magdalena Środa considers the cultural aspects of guilt and innocence, Prof. Stanisław Waltoś asks how long the state can persecute a person, Dr. Michał Laskowski asks whether public figures should be treated like everyone else, and Prof. Andrzej Krakowski wonders when Roman Polański stopped being just a human being and became an ideology. Judge Dariusz Mazur also took part in the discussion in the form of an interview. The whole is complemented by an introduction by the editor of the volume. The book is bilingual: all texts also appear in English. The University of Warsaw Publishing House presents a publication that will certainly be of interest to people seeking a deeper understanding of justice and morality in the context of media controversies. The book is ideal for students of law, sociology, cultural studies, and anyone interested in contemporary ethical and legal issues. It is a must-read for people who want to understand the complexity of justice in the context of media controversies and global challenges. This publication is a valuable source of knowledge and inspiration for reflection on the condition of modern society and its values.
