Yukio Mishima, actually Kimitake Hiraoka, was a Japanese writer, playwright, actor, director, and nationalist. He is considered one of the most important Japanese writers of the 20th century. His work is characterized by a combination of traditional Japanese values with modern psychology and aesthetics. Mishima gained international recognition for his novels, dramas, and essays, which address themes such as identity, sexuality, beauty, and death. His life ended dramatically in 1970 when he committed seppuku after a failed military coup.

"Confessions of a Mask" is not only a story about growing up, but also a deep reflection on the nature of identity and the search for truth in a world of appearances. Mishima, through his hero, asks questions about the meaning of life, self-acceptance, and finding one's place in society. This novel, despite the passage of years, is still relevant and moving, encouraging the reader to reflect on their own life and choices.

The translation by Beata Kubiak Ho-Chi fully reflects the beauty and depth of Mishima's language, allowing the Polish reader to fully experience the emotions and thoughts that accompanied the author while writing this unique work.
