Zacheusz Pawlak (1922-1991) was a member of the Grey Ranks and active in the Union of Armed Struggle. In September 1942, wanting to save his arrested brothers, he reported to the Gestapo. For several months, he was imprisoned, interrogated, and tortured in a prison in Radom, and then deported to the German concentration camp Majdanek in Lublin. For 441 days, he was held in inhuman conditions, and then taken to the camps in Natzweiler, Neckarelz, and Dachau. He escaped from the evacuation march on May 3, 1945. After the war, he completed medical studies and worked as a doctor in Radom. While still in Majdanek, he promised himself that if he survived, he would write down his memoirs.
This third edition of Pawlak's memoirs has been enriched with previously unpublished materials - his description of the camp hospital in Majdanek and his report on the trial of German criminals in Düsseldorf. This extremely valuable addition allows for an even better understanding of the reality of life in a concentration camp and gives a voice to the victims of the Nazi regime.
The book "I Survived..." is not only an account of the camp hell, but also a testament to the strength of the human spirit and the hope for survival. It is a must-read for all who want to understand the history of the 20th century and learn about the fate of people who experienced unimaginable suffering. It is also a warning against the repetition of history and an appeal to preserve the memory of the victims of totalitarianism.
